Continuing to follow the guidelines to keep us safe.

Masks: A number of parishioners already wear them and people are strongly encouraged to wear them. It is not mandatory in places of worship as we have implemented other measures to ensure peoples safety and we are observing the social distancing guidelines but wearing of masks is highly recommended.

We will be asking you to observe the guidelines concerning social distancing, you will be asked to follow the one way system in the Cathedral and the faithful will receive Communion under one form, the host. Families and people living together will be able to sit together but we ask that every other bench is left clear in order to follow guidelines. The collection will take place as you leave Mass. Stewards will also be on duty to help you with any enquiries. The toilets will not be in use and we ask everyone to use the hand sanitiser.

As we have to clean the Church after every Mass we will only have one Mass per day apart from Sundays. We ask you to pray the rosary privately at home so we will not say it together after Mass as we have to keep the time we are together as short as possible. The Cathedral will be open for half an hour before and after Mass. We will have Mass at St Aidan’s on a Sunday at 9.45am but all weekday Masses will be celebrated at the Cathedral because of the live streaming for those who are continuing to shield. I would also remind you that the dispensation for not attending Sunday mass, granted by the Bishops, is still in force so there is no obligation to you to attend a Sunday mass.

PLEASE NOTE: When we have funerals the Mass will be reserved for members of the family as due to Covid restrictions we are limited to the number of people allowed. For funerals it is close members of the family and for weddings there is a maximum of 30 people allowed which includes the Priest and registrar.

Also there are guidelines we have to follow concerning the way funerals are carried out. We ask for peoples understanding and patience in regard to this as we embrace this transition period.

Follow the guidelines concerning Track and Trace. We will ask you to fill in a form each time you come to Mass. There is only the need for one person per household to leave their details. These form will be kept for 21 days after which they will be destroyed. We will comply with GDPR legislation and only share the details from this form with the NHS Test and Trace. Please place the form in the grey baskets provided by the exits. Many thanks.

We will hear confessions in the Cathedral at 6pm this Monday 27 July.  We cannot use the confessionals at this time so we will hear them in the sacristy or the Blessed Sacrament Chapel.

New Appointments.

FR NATHANIEL ONWUEKWE: Bishop David has appointed Fr Nathaniel as priest in Charge of St Anthony’s Slough. He will take up his new appointment at the end of August. On behalf of everyone at the Cathedral and St Aidan’s Fr Mark would like to thank Fr Nathaniel for his support and ministry during this challenging time. We wish him every blessing and happiness as he prepares for his new parish.

FR JAMES EVANS has been appointed Bishop’s Secretary and will be based at Bishop’s House. Fr James will help at the Cathedral and St Aidan’s at weekends. We are facing the change caused by a declining number of priests and as we face the future it is important that we work together and use the considerable gifts and talents of all members of the parish.

DEACON ANDREW COY: Welcome back to Deacon Andrew who has returned from his trip to Rome. He is settling into the Cathedral and is looking forward to his diaconate ministry at the Cathedral and St Aidan’s. Please remember Deacon Andrew in your prayers as he continues his journey towards priesthood.

PARISH PLANNED GIVING: The parish envelopes are now available to collect,  please speak with the stewards at any Mass. If your box it not ready just let us know your number and we will have it ready for next week. If you would like to join the parish planned giving scheme then please let us know. Thank you to everyone who supports the Cathedral and St Aidan’s financially. If you would like to pay by standing order then please see the link on the parish website under the green link entitled offertory giving.

We are looking to celebrate First Holy Communion at St Aidan’s on Saturday 3 October and at the Cathedral on Saturday 10 October. We do not know at this stage how the celebrations will be marked as there may still be restrictions on numbers and on the style of liturgy we can have. Due to the uncertainty caused by the pandemic I ask for your patience and understanding. We will keep all this under review and we will be in a better position to give a more detailed account of what is possible towards the end of the summer when we will review it again.

We are planning to celebrate Confirmation on Sunday 18 October 2020. As with First Holy Communion we have to wait to confirm times as we have to see what the social distancing guidelines will be in October.

If you wish to plan for your child’s baptism you can now contact the parish office. In light of the guidelines we are amending our preparations and will give you details when you contact us. There will be a meeting for all  baptism parents on Monday 27 July at 7.30pm in the Cathedral.

Please pray for the following whose Funerals will be conducted by Father Mark  and Fr Nathaniel over the coming weeks.

Teresa Horner

Fredrick Schultz

Joan Watts

Dorothy Zannino

Michael Barden

We pray that they may rest in peace and please remember their family and friends in your prayers.

For Parents and Teachers.

CAFOD launched a National Assembly for schools. This amazing assembly can be used both in the school setting for collective worship, as well as at home. It is all about CAFOD’s ‘Summer of Hope’ and informs, inspires and encourages children, at a time when children may really need it. It is led by passionate youths and is a real must-watch! https://cafod.org.uk/News/Events/Summer-hope-assembly

A Personal Message

Our hope is that we can continue in faith and support each other in this critical and uncertain time and wherever possible we hope to provide the pastoral support needed.

From Bishop David, Father Mark, Father Nathaniel, Deacon Andrew  and the Parish team at the Cathedral & St Aidan’s be assured that you are in our thoughts & prayers, we wish you well and please stay safe.

All Masses at the Cathedral are streamed live on both our website and the diocesan website. Please see Mass times for further details.

Thank you for contacting us regarding the online streaming service, you may find this response helpful.
A great deal of time and effort has gone into providing and supporting this service which has been especially valuable during this current lock down situation, with many thousands of parishioners, near and far, benefiting from our  online services.
We have a technical team monitoring and managing the service, but there are many other factors that effect internet speeds and bandwidth which are unfortunately out of our control. This extreme demand is not just for our online streaming services of course, but right across all services on the Internet.
Due to these factors there will be occasions where there is a delay or buffering with the diocese service, for which we apologise, but this is unfortunately out of our control.
If this does happen please do not ‘refresh’ the page straight away, as this in fact just places additional load on the servers. Usually, within a few seconds the service will resume.
Please be assured that we are constantly striving to provide everyone with the best service possible in these difficult times.

We are very grateful to those who continue to support the Cathedral through their direct debits. We have had enquires about setting up payments during this lock down. If you go to the Cathedral homepage you will see a link called Offertory Giving in green. You can click this link and set-up a regular standing order, or make a one-off donation online through the diocese Virgin Money Giving facility who accept all major debit and credit cards. If you use this option, we ask that you indicate ‘for Northampton Cathedral’ in the ‘Leave a Message’ box for one-off donations, and for a regular standing order we will contact you to check which parish  your standing order is for. There is a facility to Gift Aid any donation to your parish, (for example, as an offertory donation or Mass stipend).

Alternatively you can make an online donation or set up a standing order for regular giving to the Cathedral parish via your own online bank account.
